Week in review, week ending 2/15/15

In a feature I started a few months ago, and then stopped a couple weeks ago, my “Week in review” postings begin once again, this time on Monday morning as opposed to Sunday afternoon. For those that are new to my “Week in Review” postings, the following is a list of the blog posts I made last week, a few of the posts from people I follow that I thought were pretty good, and then lastly other posts I’ve stumbled into that folks might like to take a look at. Presuming I did it right all links will open new windows/tabs. Usually I link back to the previous “Week in review” post, but we’ll start fresh today.

From me this week there was…
On Monday I posted my Some random book thoughts for February 2015, Wednesday saw the continuation of my top 5 movie countdown with My top 5 favorite westerns: #2 The Shootist, and Friday saw my review of Hazardous Duty by W.E.B. Griffin, the lowest rating I’ve given a book since I started reviews here.

From the folks I follow…
The Credible Hulk takes a look at Comic Book History: Batman: The Killing Joke. If I had to list my top ten comics ever, Batman: The Killing Joke easily makes that list. Plus it’s Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, it almost had to be great.
Not The Baseball Pitcher has a music video of 2Cellos & Lang Lang: Live and Let Die. Those 2Cellos guys really rock it.

Some stuff I stumbled into…
Polinankbooksreview has a nice review of Dan Brown’s Inferno.
The Grimdark Review has a Interview: Mark Lawrence- What’s Next?. I have Lawrence’s Broken Empire Trilogy sitting on my to-read shelf.

Not a lot of “stumbled into” stuff this week because I avoided everything even remotely related to Valentine’s Day or 50 Shades.

Links do not indicate an endorsement of the ideas presented, only that I thought the posting was worth taking a look at.

Thoughtfultomes has her Top 5 Pirate Novels. I’ve only read two of her choices (#1 and #3), and liked them both.
Blondwritemore has The power of a ‘Chick Flick’ film. My wife loves every movie listed there, so that must mean something.
The Credible Hulk with his Top 5 Let Downs of 2014. I never gave thought to such a list. May be a back-burner thing for this year. He also has a great post Comic Speculation – The Fall of the Industry. I used to buy ton of comics, but haven’t bought any in years.

Thoughtfultomes lists their Top 5 Fantasy Series. I actually have a rough draft for my list. Someday I’ll get around to finishing it.
The Credible Hulk with is Top 5 Movies of 2014. I used to go to the movies a lot. Now I never go. Not sure what changed to cause that.
The Obsessive Bookseller has a review from one of my favorite series, Kushiel’s Justice by Jacqueline Carey. I’m thinking I need to give that series the same treatment I gave “Incarnations of Immortality” by Piers Anthony recently.

Some stuff I stumbled into…
For the first time since I started these “week in review” posts I didn’t stumble into anything I thought was noteworthy. Lots of posts looking back at 2014 and talking about goals for 2015, but nothing all that interesting. Here’s to hoping I find some good stuff over the next week.

The Obsessive Bookseller has Niki’s Seven Deadly Book Sins. I answered those some time ago, but I’m too lazy to scroll through and find my post to link to it.
Thoughtfultomes has a comparison of Anna Karenina: Book vs 2012 Movie. Her last three words say it all about any book made into a movie: “Read the book”.
The Credible Hulk has another in his series of comic creator profiles, this time it’s Walt Simonson. I’m a big Simonson fan, and his Thor issues are the best in the run.
Bookspluslife with a review of one of my favorite books, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Next by Stieg Larsson. It’s one of the few times the book/series was as good as the hype said it was.
Chrissi Reads with a review of Sarah Mass’ Crown of Midnight. Such cool covers in that series.
Interestingliterature with 10 Amazing Pictures of Libraries. Some great pictures there.

Some stuff I stumbled into…

Some stuff I stumbled into…

Some stuff I stumbled into…

Thoughtfultomes has a review of one of my favorite trilogies, “The Watergivers” by Glenda Larke (AKA: “The Stormlord Trilogy”). She doesn’t like it as much as I do. That’s OK, I love it enough for the both of us.
The Credible Hulk has Survivor (Nearly) Ruined Television. I’m not a watcher of reality TV, and listening to people talk about reality TV shows I’m happy I don’t watch.
